WHY CHOOSE US?

Taongi National University is an emerging world class university with a good academic philosophy and an excellent style of academic writing that demonstrate our honest desire to promote quality higher education in Liberia and Africa.

At TNU, we understand the academic problems of Africa and we have discovered the solutions.  We understand why over the year’s efforts to promote quality education on the continent of Africa have been very challenging? We understand why the different educational approaches and academic philosophies introduced have not yielded the desire results to positively transform the continent of Africa? We understand why some graduates from Africa experience academic challenges in Western Institutions of higher learning?  We understand the nitty-gritty of the academic challenges of Liberia and Africa, therefore, we have emerged with the solutions.

The key-point here is that “just as light brightens the thick darkness, so is quality education to a dark-mind”. This is a glaring truth, Liberia, the oldest independent country in Africa and Africa as a whole, is considered as the DARK CONTINENT that did not experience the Enlightenment, hence, Developing Nations.   We are of the conviction that if Liberia and Africa will rise up to meet up with the advancement of science and technology, and improve the living conditions of its people, good elements of the Enlightenment philosophical ideologies must be awakening and implemented, follow by hard work to catch up with modernity. It is in this vein that our agenda at Taongi National University, is to provide academic excellent disciplines designed to prepare men and women for careers in their chosen paths of life.

The key theme of TNU is “Academic Excellence” in every portion of its program and functions. Accordingly, our academic philosophy is: “biblical and philosophical higher criticism with an emphasis on the critical literary forms” And our Academic Writing Style, is the means by which academic activities are expressed. Hence, it is the LIFE-LINE of the University System, our academic writing style is Philosophical, Critical Writing. We innovatively designed and implemented this style of writing because when critical writing takes a philosophical trend, it entails being constructive and critical. It outlines the system of knowledge, points out faults, and judges the merits of issues or things. In other words, it focuses on the critical examination of the meaning truth, and grounds of ideas, and of the methods by which ideas are arrived at. Thus, philosophical critical writing appears to be the best academic writing that will engage the minds of Africans and help them to display their intellectual prowess at the highest maxims of reason by seeking to determine the source, the extent, and the validity of human knowledge and the ultimate limits of reason.

The failure to implement biblical and philosophical higher criticism with emphasis on the critical literary forms, in Liberia and Africa, contributed to the numerous academic challenges confronting the continent. As Thomas Powell puts it, “Our whole educational system, from the elementary schools to the universities, is increasingly turning out people who have never heard enough conflicting arguments to develop the skills and discipline required to produce a coherent analysis, based on logic and evidence. The implications of having so many people so incapable of confronting opposing arguments with anything besides ad hominem responses reach far”. To be honest, this assertion, seems to adequately describe the academic problems confronting the Continent of Africa, and it is also a sign that little or no efforts are being made by some countries to promote quality education. If you ask the question why there seems to be little or no passion in the quest to promote quality education in some countries in Africa? The answers will end up in a debate. But Derek Bok and Lawrence Clark Powell seem to give answers that make sense.

According to Derek Bok, “Universities are institutions run by amateurs to train .professionals”.  While Lawrence Clark Powell says, “No university in the world has ever risen to greatness without a correspondingly great library… When this is no longer true, then our civilization have come to an end?” Regardless of the manner in which you may decide to answer this question, the fact here is that, access to quality education enables the citizens and inhabitants of any country to develop, flourish, and have more confidence in themselves and their abilities. It is also a glaring truth that by educating the citizens and inhabitants of any country, they acquire the keys to solving everyday problems and preparing for their future. Moreover, education enables upward socioeconomic mobility and is a key to escaping poverty. Education helps reduce inequalities and reach gender equality and is crucial to fostering tolerance and more peaceful societies.
